Who is Dave Severn? And what is Pigs Don’t Know Pigs Stink? Let me start by telling you that Dave is a legend in the Amway business. He is one of the favorite speakers with World Wide Dream Builders and Britt World Wide. He joined Amway in the mid to late 1970s and rose to a very high achievement level. He reached the Diamond level in 1981. At his highest point, he reached the status of Executive Diamond. I don’t know what his current pin is.
Dave Severn has three front-line diamonds and many downline Diamonds. His front-line Diamonds include Karl and Ruby Meyer of the Philippines, Steve and Shauna Faught, and Terry and Fran Woodhead. Most of the Severn’s downline distributors are under the Woodhead leg. This includes Crown Brad Duncan, Triple Diamond Greg Duncan and Double Diamond Brad and Leslie Wolgamott. There are many Diamonds in their organizations too. I’m not sure how big his organization is, but it’s safe to say he as least 10,000 downline distributors.
Dave started the Amway business in Idaho. He was contacted by an old friend about the business opportunity and reluctantly joined. Although he struggled for his first six months, he eventually teamed up with Ron Puryear and built a huge downline. He credits his success to attending a “Family Reunion Seminar” with his wife Jan. After the seminar, they returned home and built a large organization in just six months. That got Jan home for good. Less than one year after that, Dave walked away from his CPA career and has been full time in the Amway business ever since. Prior to joining Amway, Dave was a Certified Public Accountant. He also served in the Army as a Lieutenant.
During my 2.5 years in Amway, Dave was easily my favorite Diamond. What I admired most about him was his assertive personality. He is aggressive, tenacious and a natural leader. He is also very passionate about Amway, World Wide Dream Builders and entrepreneurship. One of his favorite quotes is “what’s not 19?” This quote refers to the magic number of 20. Dave stresses the importance of building a business with at least 20 personal distributors in width, who each get a bonus check. He teaches that “width gives you profitability” and “depth gives you security.”
Additionally, Dave gave a speech many years ago titled “Pigs Don’t Know Pigs Stink.” Although I’m not involved in the business anymore, I still love that tape. In his speech he discusses that most people really don’t have any type of game-plan for their life. They blindly follow others, have unrewarding careers and don’t live life to the fullest. After that, he discusses why entrepreneurship and the Amway business are so important.
As of this year (2011), Dave and Jan have been a full-time Amway Diamonds for 30 years. Can you imagine that? How many other network marketers have accomplished that type of feat? He has achieved what most people only dream of. Although he has many critics, Dave Severn obviously knows how to build a profitable network marketing business. If you’ve never listened to him speak, you should pick up a copy of “Pigs Don’t Know Pigs Stink.” It will blow your mind.
