Bill Britt is “the man” in the Amway business. Just about every former and current Amway distributor knows his name. I first heard him speak in 2002, when I was an Amway distributor. I still remember his passion, his tenacity and his posture. He has a “magnetic personality.” His rags-to-riches story is very impressive. Prior to joining Amway, he was a city manager in several different North Carolina cities. Prior to that, he served in the U.S. Army.
He grew up in abusive family with 7 siblings. He always wanted to “make a name for himself” and achieve success. Simply put, he was a self-motivated individual with something to prove. His Amway story began in 1970 when he was invited to see the Amway sales and marketing plan. Prior to joining the Amway business, he had lost money in an investment scam. As a result, he was very skeptical about joining Amway or any other business opportunity.
After seeing the business presentation, Bill decided to join Amway. At first he struggled with Amway. However, as he learned the ropes, his business grew. It’s also important to understand that he was pursuing a Master’s Degree, serving in the Army National Guard and working full-time when he started his Amway business. Simply put, he was a busy man!
Bill grew his Amway business the old fashioned way. He conducted home parties, worked with friends and family members and utilized the three foot rule to meet new prospects. In the 1970s, these methods were still very effective. In just three short years, he attained the status of “diamond” in the Amway business. Three years later, in 1976, he reached Double Diamond. His business continued to grow and he reached the status of Crown Ambassador in 1996. That is Amway’s highest achievement level.
Eventually, Bill realized that he needed an effective system to train his downline Amway distributors. With low retention rates, many Amway distributors would join Amway and quit shortly thereafter. Bill Britt understood that he needed a “training system” to educate and motivate his downline Amway distributors.
Therefore, Bill Britt started Britt World Wide to educate his downline members about how to build a successful and profitable Amway business. Britt World Wide provides tapes, books and functions to motivate Amway distributors. The system was available for all downline members, but was not mandatory. When people joined Amway, they had the option to participate in the training system. For a small cost, they could purchase the tapes and books, which were recommended by Britt World Wide.
For many years, Britt World Wide continued to grow. It expanded into many different countries such as China, India and European countries too. Many downline members grew large Amway businesses and spread the Britt World Wide system throughout the world. At the time of this writing, Bill Britt has 12 front-line diamonds. In 2004, his downline was said to have nearly 1.5 MILLION members. That’s amazing! Other than Dexter Yager, I’ve never heard about anyone else, from any other company, with such a large downline.
Some of his successful downline Amway distributors include:
• Crown Paul and Leslie Miller
• Double Diamond John and Jennie Belle Crowe
• Double Diamond Mickey Hamlett
• Executive Diamonds Rex and Bettie Renfrow
• Diamonds Bill and Kay Wallace
• Double Diamonds Kanti Gala
Many of the most successful people in the Amway business today are part of Bill's downline. Many of the top earners have broken away from Britt World Wide to start their own MLM training systems.
In recent years, there has been some controversy and lawsuits concerning Britt World Wide. Many former distributors have sued Britt World Wide for various different reasons. Despite the lawsuits, Bill Britt’s downline has continued to grow. In addition, several years ago Bill Britt retired. He no longer speaks at functions. But he still earns his residual income from his Amway Business and Britt World Wide. What I admire most about Bill is his tenacity and persistence. He was once interviewed on a 60-minutes episode about his success in Amway. The episode featured all the Amway MLM horror stories. Countless people shared their Amway failures with the interviewer. When the interviewer asked Bill Britt what his secret to success was, he responded by stating (paraphrased) that “he shared the business with more people than most Amway distributors do. Of those people, about 300 joined. Of the 300 that joined, about 35 were serious. Of the 35 that were serious, about 10 of those made him a millionaire.”
There’s a huge lesson here. Bill Britt understood that network marketing is a numbers game. He simply worked the numbers and achieved success. People can still do that today. If you want to achieve MLM success, you must share your business opportunity with lots of people, in order to find your “few diamonds in the rough.” I hope you fill remember that advice as you build your network marketing business. To find 6 key people, you might need to talk to 500-100 people. That might sound crazy, but it’s worth it. Six good people can help you earn millions of dollars in network marketing.
In summary, Bill Britt is a legend in the Amway business. He is the founder of Britt World Wide. His business is spread in countless different countries throughout the world. He has achieved huge success and has helped others do the same. He is one of the most successful men in the history of Amway and in the history of network marketing. Bill Britt is downline to Dexter and Birdie Yager.
